German economy minister habek said that the global supply bottleneck shows that Germany and Europe have no time to delay. They must work together to achieve self-sufficiency in microelectronics demand and return production to Germany and Europe. They must rely on innovation, energy conservation and environmental protection technologies to promote the carbon neutral transformation of industry. It is up to the European Commission to decide which projects can be included in the ipcei framework. once selected, it means generous subsidies and all-round support from EU countries.
It is understood that ipcei project must meet the following conditions: first, it is in line with EU strategic objectives and highly innovative; Second, the project must be participated by enterprises from multiple EU Member States.
The German Ministry of economy said that the total private investment in the 32 seleced projects exceeded 10 billion euros, but did not disclose the proportion of government funds. In ipcei phase I project, the total private investment is 2.6 billion euros and the government fund is 1 billion euros. According to this proportion, the government investment in this phase may reach 4 billion euros.
In addition to Germany, about 90 enterprises from 19 EU Member States participated in the ipcei project, which aims to promote microelectronics and communication technology in the whole value chain. The participating enterprises include industry giants, small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups. The project covers material production, chip design and production, parts and systems integration.
