The economic and trade cooperation forum between Panama and China was held in Panama City on December 3. The forum, co-hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Ministry of Commerce and Industries, invited a total of 300 delegates from Chinese and Panamanian enterprises.
The President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela, Chairperson of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Gao Yan, and Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industries of Panama Néstor González attended and addressed the forum.
Varela noted, the state visit of Chinese president Xi Jinping to Panama is of great historical significance, which has given impetus to the Panama-China economic and trade cooperation. Panama is willing to proactively participate in the Belt and Road construction and deepen practical cooperation in all fields. The business community is important participant and propeller of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Varela added Panama welcomed more Chinese investments and expand its business to more Latin American countries by Panama as a hub.
Gao Yan said, China-Panama relations have witnessed rapid development since the two countries established diplomatic ties in June, 2017. Progress has achieved in the cooperation in all fields. CCPIT is willing to cooperate with Panamanian side to jointly deepen cooperation of the business communities under the Belt and Road Initiative, explore trade potentials, enhance cooperation level in technology and infrastructure, and create new mode for the third-party cooperation.
The opening of the forum was followed by the unveiling ceremony of CCPIT trade representative office in Panama. The office was unveiled by Gao Yan and Néstor González, and witnessed by President Valera.
