The 21st Meeting of China-Russia Trade and Economic Cooperation Sub-Committee Held in Moscow

On September 20, Assistant Minister Li Chenggang and Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sergey Gorkov jointly held the 21st Meeting of China-Russia Trade and Economic Cooperation Sub-Committee of China-Russia Premiers’ Regular Meeting Committee in Moscow.

Li Chenggang said the current China-Russia relations are in their best period in history. Last week, President Xi Jinping attended the 4th Eastern Economic Forum and met with President Putin. The two presidents reached an important consensus on deepening mutual trust and expanding pragmatic cooperation in various fields. This meeting aims to fully implement the consensus of the two countries’ heads and to make economic and trade preparation for the 23rd regular meeting between the two premiers in the fourth quarter, and the 22nd Meeting of the Premiers’ Regular Meeting Committee.

Li Chenggang pointed out that since this year, China-Russia trade has witnessed a strong growth, the synergy among strategies has continued to be deepened, and investment and strategic projects’ cooperation has been proceeding well. Next, the two sides should jointly implement the important consensus of the heads of the two countries on deepening China Russia strategic cooperation, jointly explore the synergy and cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Unio, and consolidate the good momentum of trade. They should support the development of cross-border e-commerce and service trade, improve the trade settlement system, and take advantage of the China International import Exposition and the China Russia Expo to promote inter-regional cooperation. China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Russia under the multilateral framework of the WTO and BRICS,support the multilateral trading system and uphold it.

Sergey Gorkov agreed to China’s suggestion and said that Russia is willing to further optimize the trade structure with China, expand cooperation on major investment and strategic projects, expand the scale of local currency settlement, strengthen multilateral communication and coordination, and oppose trade protectionism together.

After the meeting, the two sides jointly signed the meeting minutes. Representatives from the relevant departments, local governments and chambers of commerce of the two countries attended the meeting.
