As the supporting event of the first CIIE, the 9th China International Meet Conference was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on November 7. Assistant Minister of Commerce Ren Hongbin attended the conference and delivered a speech.
Ren Hongbin pointed out that holding the China International Meat Conference on the strategic platform of the CIIE fully demonstrates that the Chinese government attaches great importance to increasing agricultural product imports and expanding agricultural opening up. It will absolutely further promote international exchange and cooperation of food and agricultural products and promote supply-side structural reform in agriculture to continuously meet the growing consumption demands of the people.
Ren Hongbin said that during the eight years from 2010 to 2017, the average annual compound growth rate of China's meat import and amount of money was 14.1% and 23.2% respectively, reaching 3.88 million tons and US$9.5 billion. While the scale of meat import has been expanding, the varieties and sources of import have become increasingly diversified, and the trade cooperation between China and other countries has continued to deepen. The holding of the China International Meat Conference has further narrowed the gap between production and consumption, and will definitely have a positive impact on meat production, trade and international cooperation.
Ren Hongbin emphasized that China is the most dynamic meat market in the world. With the increase in income and the optimization of consumption structure, the potential of China's meat consumption growth will be huge in the future. The Chinese government will continue to adhere to the open strategy of mutual benefit and win-win situation, actively expand imports, and build close relations between expanding import and promoting the Belt and Road construction and accelerating the implementation of the free trade zone strategy. I hope that the China International Meat Conference will always maintain innovative quality characteristics, actively improve the effectiveness of the meeting, and strive to make the meeting have more distinguishing features, more influential and more effective.
The conference was co-hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce Foodstuffs and Native Produce and Tianjin Commission of Commerce. Attending were more than 300 people from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the Tianjin Municipal Government, relevant foreign government departments, industry organizations, domestic and foreign manufacturers, traders and distributors.
