The completion ceremony of the off-grid photovoltaic power station in Gambella, Ethiopia, undertaken by China State Grid China Power Technology Equipment Co., Ltd. and Nanjing NARI Protection Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. as a consortium was held on the 13th.
According to reports, the project has a photovoltaic capacity of 175 kilowatts and a designed annual power generation capacity of 800,000 kilowatt-hours, which can provide stable and clean power for more than 400 local residents.
Omod Ojulu, Governor of Gambella State, thanked the Chinese company for their strong support at the completion ceremony and praised the project as a real livelihood project.
Que Chengxin, general manager of China Power Technology Equipment Co., Ltd. Africa Regional Center, said that all parties overcome the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and the project is finally completed. In order to provide better-quality power services to African people, the company set up an African regional center this year, headquartered in Ethiopia.
The off-grid photovoltaic power plant project in Gambella State is an important part of the World Bank’s "Light Up Africa" development plan, and is also one of the first 12 off-grid photovoltaic pilot power plants in Ethiopia, with a total investment of approximately US$14 million. The World Bank said that after the project is successfully piloted, additional investment will be made in other local villages without electricity.
