We reported a few days ago that a super-large container ship named MADRID BRIDGE, owned by Japanese shipping company ONE, with a capacity of up to 13,900 TEU, had a container collapse accident.
According to the latest news, ONE issued a statement on the evening of the 13th confirming that its "Madrid Bridge" (Voyage: 016E/W) deployed on the Asia-North America EC4 service route of THE Alliance was on its way to the next port of call in New York, USA. A container collapsed in the North Atlantic.
According to preliminary investigations, it is estimated that about 60 containers fell into the water and another 80 containers were damaged. These figures may be updated after further investigation.
ONE earlier said the ship was heading for New York, but the latest statement said the ship may stop at Charleston for damage assessment and unloading operations.
"The vessel is currently heading to the east coast of the United States and, if all goes well, will stop at Charleston for a detailed assessment of the vessel's condition and unload the affected containers."
The ship's owner, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K Line), said no one was injured and no containers containing dangerous goods were lost.
The "Madrid Bridge" was serving the EC4 route and was performing voyage 016E/W at the time of the incident, involving four shipping companies HAPAG-LLOYD, HMM, ONE, and YANG MING sharing cabins.
The ship passes through Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian (2021.11.30-2021.12.02), Gaimei and Singapore, passing through the Suez Canal and then heading to North America.
It will call in New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Charleston and New York before returning to Singapore via the Suez Canal.
