Another black swan? ! 5G is on the road in the United States, and multinational airlines urgently ca

The 5G deployment in the United States has been twists and turns. As a result, when the two major operators are about to open 5G networks, American Airlines jointly launched an offensive.

Major U.S. airlines have warned that the launch of 5G could lead to a "catastrophic" aviation crisis, and that the imminent start of C-band 5G services could prevent a large number of wide-body planes from taking off, leaving thousands of American travelers stranded overseas and disrupting U.S. flights.

The FAA also warned that potential 5G wireless interference could affect sensitive aircraft instruments such as altimeters and severely hinder low-visibility operations.

The FAA says only about 45 percent of U.S. commercial aircraft are authorized to take off and land at airports wher 5G signals will soon be deployed.

But even with approval, some flights could still be affected.

Major international airlines are scrambling to modify or cancel flights to the U.S. amid uncertainty over potential interference between new 5G cellphone service and key aircraft technology.

Emirates, Air India, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa and British Airways have all announced changes to some flights, citing the issue.

Emirates said it was suspending flights to nine U.S. airports: Boston, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, George Bush Intercontinental in Houston, Miami, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco and Seattle.

The company said it will continue to fly to New York JFK, Los Angeles International and Washington Dulles.

"We are working closely with aircraft manufacturers and relevant authorities to alleviate operational concerns and we hope to resume service in the US as soon as possible," Emirates said in a statement.

Air India said it will suspend services between Delhi and San Francisco, Chicago and JFK; it will also suspend flights from Mumbai to Newark.

Flights to Washington Dulles will remain normal.

Both All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines said they had canceled some flights to the U.S. with Boeing 777s but would instead operate some flights with Boeing 787s.

Deutsche Lufthansa cancelled flights between Frankfurt and Miami. The company said it would replac Boeing 747-8s with 747-400s on flights from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.

A spokesman for British Airways said the company "had to make some cancellations" because the telecom operator's decision to delay the launch of new 5G services in certain locations did not cover all the airports the airline serves.

Virgin, Air France, KLM and other airlines said they had not cancelled any flights but were monitoring the situation.

Delta Air Lines said it planned to cancel flights as early as Wednesday due to new 5G service near dozens of U.S. airports.

Transportation regulators have grown concerned that the planned version of 5G could interfere with some aircraft instruments, a concern shared by many aviation industry groups — despite assurances from federal telecom regulators and wireless carriers.

Airlines estimate 1,000 daily flight disruptions due to potential interference with radar altimeters pilots use when descending in low visibility conditions.
