BERLIN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Import prices in Germany continued to rise last month, according to official figures released by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday.
Import prices were 2.1 percent higher in August 2017 compared with the same month last year, against increases of 1.9 percent and 2.5 percent measured in July and June respectively.
The Wiesbaden-based government statisticians identified the development of prices for intermediate goods as the main driver behind rising import costs.
The cost of energy imports rose by 9.4 percent on average, with the prices of petroleum products up 14.6 percent and crude oil up 7 percent.
Price hikes for imported consumer goods were less pronounced at 0.9 percent, while the cost of capital goods fell slightly by 0.7 percent.
