The reporter learned from China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd. that on December 19, as a sea-rail intermodal train entered the Shanghai Luchao Port Railway Center Station, the volume of Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport exceeded 900,000 TEUs in 2024, an increase of more than 30% year-on-year, setting a historical record.

At present, Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport lines have radiated more than 40 cities across the country. After these materials arrive at Luchao Port by train, they are shipped to Southeast Asia, North America and other regions through Yangshan Deepwater Port. Sea-rail intermodal transport is becoming an important link to promote the deepening of economic and trade exchanges between countries in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and maintain the stability and smoothness of the international industrial chain supply chain.

Since the beginning of this year, the volume of Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport business has grown rapidly. Relevant units have joined forces to optimize service measures, expand service "interfaces", strive to provide reliable transportation capacity guarantees, and jointly build an efficient operation contact model. According to customer needs, the start-up plan is accurately arranged in stages, and loading and unloading and ship schedules are seamlessly connected to meet market demand to the maximum extent.

"To meet the growing demand for Shanghai's sea-rail transport business, we continue to optimize express trains. At the same time, through the renovation of equipment and facilities, we comprehensively promote the innovation of multimodal transport coordination models and continuously improve the loading and unloading capacity and transportation organization efficiency." Li Zhong, manager of the Transportation Safety Department of Shanghai Railway Luchao Port Container Center Station, said.

Li Lin, head of the Multimodal Transport Section of the Freight Department of Shanghai Railway Group, said: "We will continue to strengthen the promotion of sea-rail transport policies, expand the routes, innovate service measures, integrate information resources, better support the sustained growth and high-quality development of sea-rail transport, and help effectively reduce the logistics costs of the whole society."
