Agriculture is a traditionally strong industry for Linyi, which currently maintains a cultivated area of about 10,000,000 mu (about 6666 hectares).
Since China’s carrying out of its reform and opening-up, the structure of agriculture in Linyi has gradually transformed from a single and traditional planting-featured agriculture into a diversified, comprehensive and well-balanced development pattern among farming, forestry, pasture husbandry, sideline industries and fishing. An integrated operating style has come into being by streamlining the whole process from production, processing to marketing of a product. Also an integrated development pattern has been formed combining trade, industry and agriculture. For the planting industry, it has evolved into three different sub-industries as traditional industry featured by oil-bearing crops, oilseeds and yellow tobacco, superior industry dominated by vegetables and fruits, and new industry of edible fungi, flowers and Chinese medicinal materials. In this way has the annual income per capita of peasants reached RMB9,149 yuan.
With such achievements, Linyi was granted with many honorary titles including China Vegetable Town, China Garlic Town, China Burdock Town, China Honeysuckle Town and No. 1 Peach City, etc. While the animal husbandry, fishing industry and forestry have made rapid developments, the ecologically friendly livestock breeding has been put into wider application.
