Ghanaian boy catch eyes at 16th Linyi Calligrapher Sage Culture Festival

I have been practicing calligraphy in less than a year. Learning calligraphy helps me to get clever,” said Kelvin, an eight-year-old boy from Ghana while caught people’s eyes at the 16th Calligrapher Sage Culture Festival of Linyi opened in Linyi City, east China’s Shandong Province on Sep. 3.

The 16th Calligrapher Sage Culture Festival of Linyi is held from Sept. 3 to Nov. 7 in Linyi. Huge numbers of visiting guests and local residents witnessed the grand opening ceremony of the cultural festival at Linyi International Expo Center on Monday morning. At the opening ceremony, a youth calligraphy exhibition themed with “Ink Spread across Yimeng (anther name of Linyi)” was put on display. For his unique experience of practicing calligraphy, Kelvin was encouraged to attend the activity.

“I was born in Ghana and my mom took me to China to learn Chinese. I have been practicing calligraphy in less than a year. Learning calligraphy helps me to get clever.” Being in the spotlight, Kelvin talked to reporters in fluent Chinese. “I love learning English and Chinese, I like to watch Chinese cartoons.”

On the spot of “Ink Spread across Yimeng” Youth Calligraphy Exhibition, around 100 youth calligraphy lovers gathered to write Chinese characters with Chinese brush, showing their distinguished talents in calligraphy.
