The Promotion Conference of the 10th China-LAC Business Summit was held successfully in Beijing on May 20. Jiang Zengwei, chairman of the CCPIT and Wang Xiaodong, member of the CPC Hebei Leadership Group delivered speeches at the conference. Lloyd Pinas, leader of Latin America and Caribbean Embassy Delegation and Suriname ambassador to China, spoke at the conference on behalf of the delegation. Representatives from embassies and business associations of 18 Latin American countries, including Chile, Peru, Uruguay and Mexico, attended the conference and involved into deep communications on the summit and China-LAC trade and investment cooperation. Lin Shunjie, general director of Trade and Investment Promotion Department of the CCPIT, hosted the conference.

Jiang introduced the current development and cooperation prospect of China-LAC trade and economic relationship. He said that in recent years, under the new cooperation framework of “1+3+6”, China-LAC trade and economic cooperation has been undergoing rapid growth. China has already become the second-largest trade partner of Latin America and the largest trade partner of many countries in that region. Latin America has become an important overseas investment destination of China and its export to China has seen the highest growth rate. The CCPIT will fully play its role as the platform for China-LAC senior summit, to further promote the development of China-LAC trade and economic relationship. The CCPIT will work with Hebei Provincial government, PBOC (People’s Bank of China) and Inter-American Development Bank to organize the 10th China-LAC Business Summit and trade and investment promotion activities in Tangshan, Hebei during Oct. 14-15. The activities will center upon new trade and investment fields, new business cooperation model and new services of business associations, to boost corporate cooperation confidence and create platforms for communication and cooperation between China and LAC countries. The CCPIT is willing to work with other institutions to promote the deep cooperation between China and LAC countries through the platform of China-LAC business summit.

Wang Xiaodong pointed that as the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei has become national strategy, especially when Beijing and Zhangjiakou have won the bid for 2022 Winter Olympics, Hebei province has become the most vibrant region with the biggest development potential in China. Hebei considers Latin American region as an important cooperation region. Nowadays Latin America is undergoing rapid industrialization and a new round of infrastructural construction. Hebei province has unique technological, HR and management advantages in producing steel, cement, glass and photovoltaic products and the bilateral cooperation has huge development potential. Hebei keeps improving its trade and investment policies, innovating its information-based financial services and building up more cooperation platform to create better business environment for enterprises of both sides. Hebei welcomes LAC governments, business associations and commercial industry to participate into the summit for on-site business negotiation, inspection and exploration of business opportunities.
Lloyd Pinas, leader of Latin America and Caribbean Embassy Delegation and Suriname ambassador to China, also delivered a speech on behalf of LAC and Caribbean embassy groups. He said that LAC and Caribbean countries pay high attention to the trade relationships with China and are grateful to the efforts made by the CCPIT to promote China-LAC trade and investment cooperation over the past years. He said that LAC and Caribbean embassies in China will work hard to invite enterprises of their home country to attend the summit and deepen the China-LAC trade and investment cooperation using the platform of the business summit.
Later, Li Qinfeng, vice mayor of Tangshan city, introduced the basic conditions of Tangshan city. The representatives from Laoting County, Tangshan and Hebei Reform and Development Commission, introduced the China-LAC industrial park and outbound cooperation priorities of Hebei. Xu Yingzhen, counselor of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Zhu Jingyang, counselor of the Department of Latin America and Caribbean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and ambassadors to China gave high praise to the significance of the summit, expressed their opinions on the China-LAC cooperation potential and provided valuable suggestions on the preparation for the summit.
China-LAC Business Summit is China’s first mechanism platform to promote trade and investment cooperation with Latin American regions. It was first established under the proposal of the CCPIT in 2007 and written into Policy Papers for Latin America and Caribbean Countries as an important channel to promote China-LAC trade and investment relationship. The summit is held once per year and in turns between China and one of Latin American and Caribbean countries. The 10th China-LAC Business Summit, which will be held in Tangshan later this year, is themed with “innovation and cooperation for win-win situation”. Leaders from China and LAC countries, government officials, entrepreneurs of the commercial industry, and experts from think tank and financial institutions will hold discussions on international capacity cooperation, trade & investment, financial service and industrial park cooperation. The summit will also hold other activities like round-table meeting, target negotiations and exhibition on China-LAC industrial cooperation.
