On July 12, the China-Malaysia Green Value Chain Partnership: Promoting Low-Carbon Development and Just Transformation of Palm Oil, Promoting Green Economy and Resilient Recovery Roundtable Dialogue (hereinafter referred to as the "Event") was successfully held in Beijing. The event mainly discussed issues such as climate investment and financing to empower the construction of palm oil green value chain and explore green solutions for palm oil industry chain cooperation. The event was jointly organized by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China (FECO), the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), and the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO). Chen Hongyan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities of Malaysia, Li Yonghong, Deputy Director of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and others attended the event and delivered keynote speeches.
The development of green economy cannot be separated from international cooperation. China and Malaysia will continue to adhere to the principle of mutual benefit and win-win, strengthen policy docking, deepen technical exchanges, promote the implementation of more green projects, jointly explore the path of low-carbon development and fair transformation of palm oil, and promote green economy and resilient recovery. To this end, the event issued three proposals: First, take the green value chain cooperation as an opportunity to promote China and Malaysia to implement the United Nations 2023 Sustainable Development Agenda, steadily promote the implementation of global development initiatives, jointly promote cooperation with relevant United Nations agencies and think tanks, further expand international platforms and networks, and provide innovative solutions for the development of regional green industrial chains. Second, under the framework of the China-ASEAN Green Value Chain Partnership, explore China-Malaysia green value chain cooperation, through policy, business, science and other dialogues, to build consensus on the green value chain between China and Malaysia, through joint research, to grasp the carbon emission level of typical regional products, and introduce international advanced solutions, through the organization of stakeholder capacity building activities and related training, to improve the level of sustainable management and low-carbon development of the value chain, and through the promotion of the demonstration cooperation of synergistic efficiency improvement of value chain carbon reduction and pollution reduction, to build a regional green value chain technology cooperation network.
The third is to rely on the knowledge sharing platform of South-South Cooperation on Climate Change to jointly develop and disseminate public products for addressing climate change and sustainable development. The event also invited nearly 100 representatives from government agencies, traders, processors, manufacturers, financial institutions, social organizations, certification agencies and other industry stakeholders to discuss the policies and trends of future low-carbon development and fair transition of palm oil.
