A number of Chinese and German arbitration experts conducted in-depth discussions on cutting-edge hot issues in the field of international arbitration, such as trade dispute resolution, procedural efficiency and arbitration awards. Zhai Qian, Minister of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of an all-round strategic partnership between China and Germany, and the exchanges between the two sides at all levels and in all fields are very active. Although China-Germany and China-EU cooperation are currently facing multiple challenges, the prospects for cooperation between the two sides are broad. Under the current complex international situation, this seminar has positive and practical significance for promoting China-Germany economic and trade cooperation, is conducive to promoting exchanges between the legal and economic circles, promoting and popularizing arbitration and commercial dispute resolution, further improving the awareness and ability of enterprises to prevent risks, and escorting the trade and investment cooperation between Chinese and German enterprises.

Ramona Schardt, Secretary General of the German Arbitration Institute, said that against the background of the continued growth of bilateral trade exchanges between China and Germany, arbitration can play a greater role and promote the steady development of trade and investment. She said that arbitration between China and Germany has developed rapidly, and the German Arbitration Institute and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission attach great importance to strengthening cooperation and have reached many consensuses in jointly promoting China-Germany economic and trade cooperation and promoting the development of dispute resolution. In the future, the two institutions will work together to enhance the understanding of arbitration by Chinese and German commercial entities and promote the development of international arbitration through more practical cooperation.

Heiko Heppner, Chairman of the Chinese Committee of the German Arbitration Institute and Head of Arbitration Business in Europe at Dentons, said that international arbitration is an important way to resolve economic and trade disputes between commercial entities. It is very important to balance the relationship between efficiency, fairness and cost in arbitration cases. It is in the real interests of the parties to properly resolve disputes through mediation and other means in the arbitration process.

He hopes that the Chinese and German arbitration communities will strengthen exchanges and jointly explore and promote the development of multiple dispute mechanisms including arbitration. In order to further strengthen cooperation and promote arbitration to protect the development of Sino-German economic and trade, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and the German Arbitration Institute signed an updated cooperation agreement at this meeting. They will carry out more extensive and in-depth cooperation in jointly promoting the arbitration system, holding arbitration activities, recommending arbitrators to each other, and conducting research, so as to expand the depth and breadth of cooperation between the two sides and jointly promote the integrated development of international arbitration. The German Arbitration Institute was established in 1947 and is one of the largest arbitration institutions in Europe.
