China and Panama Sign Memorandum of Understanding on E-commerce Cooperation

On December 3, during President Xi Jinping’s first state visit to Panama, and witnessed by the leaders of the two countries, Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan and Panama Minister of Commerce and Industry Augusto Arosemena signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Panama on E-commerce Cooperation in Panama city.

According to the Memorandum, the two parties will establish the cooperation mechanism of e-commerce and strengthen cooperation in policy communication, enterprises matchmaking and capability building. The two parties will also promote the service level of logistics and tourism through e-commerce, strengthen cooperation of “Silk Road E-commerce” jointly and further promote the sustainable and stable development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

China and Panama established the diplomatic relations officially on June 13, 2017, opening the new chapter of economic and trade relations of the two countries. During the one and a half year since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the bilateral economic and trade cooperation has gained fruitful achievements, and the two countries enjoy broad prospect in cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative. E-commerce plays an even more important role in bilateral economic and trade relations.

Up to now, China has signed Memorandum of Understanding on e-commerce cooperation and established bilateral e-commerce cooperation mechanisms with 17 key countries, and the cooperation partners are all over the five continents. “Silk Road E-commerce” has become the new channel and new highlight of economic and trade cooperation.
