On November 6, Li Chenggang, Assistant Minister of Ministry of Commerce, attended the Global Dairy Forum and delivered a speech.
Li Chenggang pointed out that in 2017, China has imported 2.557 million tons and US$9.3 billion of dairy products from 60 countries and regions around the world, with an increase of 13.3% and 36.1% compared with those of 2016 respectively. In the decade from 2008 to 2017, China's dairy product imports have been grew at a compound annual growth rate of 21.5%. The rapid growth of China's dairy imports has provided a broad market for domestic and foreign dairy companies.
Li Chenggang emphasized that China is one of the most dynamic dairy markets in the world. With the increase in income and the optimization of consumption structure, the consumption growth potential of Chinese dairy product will be great in the future. The Chinese government will adhere to the open strategy of mutual benefit and win-win, and continue to unleash the domestic market potential and the space of import, and we will closely combine tariffs ’ cutting, trade facilitation measures’ promoting with the development accelerating of new formats and new models.
As the supporting activity of the first China International import Expo, the forum was hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce. With the theme of “Gathering global resources and serving Chinese market”, the forum shared the successful experience of Chinese companies on effectively combining the advantages of resources, market and brand through “going out” and “bringing in,” and supplying high-quality dairy products to Chinese market to satisfy Chinese consumers' pursuit of high-quality life.
More than 100 representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the New Zealand Embassy in China, the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce, and domestic and foreign dairy industry organizations and enterprises attended the forum.
