The reporter learned from the Zhanjiang Municipal Transportation Bureau that the Leizhou Peninsula West Line Expressway, the second expressway channel from the mainland to Hainan Island, has been included in the "National Highway Network Alignment Planning Scheme" and officially upgraded to a national expressway. According to the Zhanjiang Municipal Transportation Bureau, the Leizhou Peninsula West Line Expressway is located in the western coastal area of the Leizhou Peninsula. A feasibility study is currently underway.
The route is generally north-south, starting from Anpu Town, Lianjiang City, connecting to the Lanhai Branch of the Shantou-Zhanjiang Expressway (Huazhou to Lianjiang Expressway), passing through 15 towns in 4 counties and cities including Lianjiang City, Suixi County, Leizhou City, and Xuwen County to the south, and the end point is located in Jiaowei Township, Xuwen County, connecting to the Guangdong Coastal Tourism Highway (National Highway G228). The total length is about 150.1 kilometers, using the technical standards of a two-way four-lane expressway, with a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour, and an estimated investment of about 19.318 billion yuan. In August this year, the Leizhou Peninsula West Line Expressway, as a component of the Lanhai Expressway G75, a national expressway longitudinal line, was included in the "National Highway Network Alignment Planning Scheme" issued by the Ministry of Transport and upgraded to a national expressway. The construction of the Leizhou Peninsula West Line Expressway will promote the mutual development of Guangdong and Hainan, and Zhanjiang and Hainan; enhance the resilience and security capabilities of Hainan Island's external high-speed channels, and serve the construction and development of Hainan's free trade port; build and improve the cross-sea transportation system of the Qiongzhou Strait, and improve the transportation efficiency and safety of the Qiongzhou Strait; improve the Beibu Gulf intercity comprehensive transportation network, and promote the integrated development of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration and the construction of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, which is of great significance.
