CCPIT Chairperson Gao Yan met with Mayor of Lautoka in Fiji

CCPIT Chairperson Gao Yan met in Fiji with Jone Q Nakauvadra, Mayor of Lautoka City, Fiji’s economic powerhouse on November 20 and reached broad consensus on increasing exchanges and cooperation in trade and economy.

Nakauvadra said, foreign investment plays an important role in Fiji’s national economy. Fiji welcomes more investments and businesses from China and looks forward to complementary and win-win cooperation with China. He also noted that tourism is a pillar industry in Fiji. Fiji welcomes more Chinese companies investing in hotels and other tourist projects and more Chinese tourists spending holidays in Fiji.

Gao Yan said, while China-Fiji economic and trade cooperation is developing in good momentum, we are witnessing more highlights of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, etc. which has substantiated the strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and shared development. She also added, China is a major trade partner and largest investor of Fiji. Taking the opportunity of “Belt and Road” cooperation agreement, China is willing to work together with Fiji counterparts to elevate the bilateral economic cooperation to a new level and bring tangible interests and gains to people of both countries by building more platforms for cooperation, providing better goods and services, expanding cooperation areas and innovating cooperation models. Gao Yan also extended invitations to Lautoka companies for the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation scheduled for April, 2019.

Also present at the meeting were Fiji Chamber of Commerce of China Wu Zhenming and Commercial Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Fiji Li Zhi.
